Called the bruised bathroom, for its black, blue and purple color scheme.

Everything has been removed.  You are looking at what used to be the vanity.

The plumber has started. Notice how the drywall is opened up on the back wall and you can see the sun light from the water heater room.

The water heater is removed to gain access to the hot and cold water lines.  Notice the hard working plumber in the lower left corner.  This room will be the termination point for water for this bathroom.  This will make it MUCH easier when we get ready to repipe the entire house.

What a night.  You can see in this picture the old galvanized water pipes have been capped off, but the old pipes to the shower broke just below the concrete.  Without the tools to fix it, the water remained shut off overnight, meaning a stay a the local motel.

Yesterday they cut more of the floor and dug down until they hit dirt.

Looking down the hole you can see the pipe they were looking for and found another pipe crossing its path.  We think this pipe goes outside, but we are not sure.

They have started rebuilding the shower frame with new wood.

They patch part of the floor so they could build the shower frame.  They still have to finish removing the old galvanized pipe(s) from under the concrete.

Yesterday the hot mop crew came in and applied tar to build the shower pan. 

I don't know why I was surprised that the whole house smelled like tar all night.  

The crew rented a jackhammer and broke up more concrete.  

This exposed more pipes underground.  Notice the rusting, galvanized pipes UNDER the house.  I don't think it would be very good if one of these pipes were to break.

I authorized them to finish opening up the floor and remove as much of the galvanized pipes as possible.

You can see the tar paper is now installed in the shower.  But more importantly, there is a bigger hole in the bathroom.

The major discovery is that a 1" main water line come from the front of the house and first tees off to the toilet, then the sink, then to the shower and hot water heater.  We were hoping the water line would start with the water heater and then go to the bathroom.

The plan for today is to not touch the main 1" line, but to go from this Tee into a 3/4" line and up to the water heater.  On the way up to the water heater, we will tee again and feed the bathroom.

On Friday, they filled in the holes and poured concrete.

Yesterday they started the drywall and cement board (in the shower).

As you can see there is still more to do.

Not much was done yesterday. The only change that I saw was the soldering of the shower head receptacle. 

They still need to move the light's electrical box over to make room for the new lights.  The new location is marked with penciled  square.

The wall next to the other electrical box still needs some clean-up.

As of lunch, the drywall appeared to be done inside the bathroom.  He was working in the water heater room.

The old wall heater hold is now covered up.

The light switch area is also cleaned up.

It looks like all drywall work is completed and the primer paint was applied to the bathroom.

The floor has been started!  All the whole tiles were installed. 

Today the cut tiles should go in.

Last Friday, the finished the floor.  You can see all the cut tiles are in and the grout installed.

The vanity has arrived and was painted!

The water heater has been installed and the inside has been painted.  We also added a water heater pan to prevent future floods.

The Cabinet and countertop are now sitting in place, but not secured.

The shower tile has begun.

The bathroom really began to take shape!  The toilet was installed and works!  I had to go out and buy a seat.  The mirror was installed, the faucet was install and hooked up, except for the drain.

The wall lights were installed--upside down.

We expect the drain line to be connected to the sink today.  The water lines are already connected.

The lights are not pointing in the right direction.

About half of the tile is installed in the shower.

Here are the new soap dish holder and corner shelf-something we did not have before.  I hope this doesn't make it too cluttered. 

They installed the towel holders upside down.  I didn't think it was possible, but it is.

Its Saturday and they finished the shower tile, except for the floor.

Some grouting has begun.

There is still much to do, like fixing up this corner.

The entry into the shower will have to be redone, it does not angle into the shower.  Again the floor has not been started.

Yesterday's big accomplishment was the finishing of the tile and grout.

There is still some grout cleanup to do.

Its looking a lot like a real bathroom now, a very dusty bathroom.

By the end of Tuesday, October 8, the shower fixtures were installed, however we discovered that the piece between the wall and the handles was missing.  Actually Price Pfister doesn't make this sleeve in bushed nickel, but they are sending me a polished chrome piece for free.

Work was also completed on the sink.  It now fully works-with minimal leaks.

They are taking a couple of days off to let some plaster dry.  They are suppose to show up on Saturday, Oct 12 to continue.  This will give us a few days of rest!

More progress was made.  The door was painted and installed.

Long sleeves and covers arrived from Price Pfister to cover the distance between the handles and the wall.

The area around the skylight in the shower was painted.

All the handles are now installed.

The shower handle trim is now fixed.

This is the cracked mirror that should be replace soon.

Its hard to see, but additional grout is needed.  This is the floor and wall of the shower.

More grout or patching for the shower head is also needed.

The third load of trash was removed, but there is still more to remove.  Its amazing how much trash one little bathroom can make.

The new (replacement) mirror arrived and was installed.

Tri-Tech says they fixed the leaking drain, but I still saw it leak.

The countertop was secured and caulked.

The drain cover was installed, but the grouting was not fixed or sealed.

Bathroom Remodel Part II - The Redo

Now we start over.  By lunch time all tile was removed and the inside of the shower walls were removed down to the hot mop area.

Much better the second time.  This crew was very careful with the sink counter top, floor and rest of the house.

The drywall was fixed and sanded. This smoothed out the various rips and bumps.

When they left for the day, they removed all the trash and swept up with their own broom!  This made Jennifer very happy!

Or day 2 of the redo and already the cement board is installed.

Cement was added at the bottom to help straighten out the walls.

Tiling has begun!

The checkerboard pattern was placed in, but now some tiles will have to be removed to install the soap dish and corner shelf.

About half of the walls were completed.

The walls are basically complete with tile.

The tiles go all the way to the ceiling/skylight.

Most of the door way is done.

But the top, bottom and around the door still need to be done.

The floor was mostly completed today.

Lots of work was done today.  Here one of the defective floor tiles was removed and replaced.

It looks like the shower tiles are now complete, except grouting.  Here you can see the tiles around the door are done.

Today was painting day.  Here one of the bedroom walls was painted.

The inside of the bathroom was repainted.

The walls outside of the bathroom were also repainted.

Today should be the final day of Tri-Tech's construction.

All the trim was put back on.

They even cleaned the window!

All fixtures were re-installed.

Next step--order shower door, then we should be complete!

The shower door finally arrived and was installed.

After 35 construction days, this project is finally completed!

Or so we thought...

Part III - The leak fix

Just over a year past since we thought we were done, but one little problem remained--the shower leaked!

After three months of construction, we were not anxious to do any more work on the bathroom, besides, John was coming and with a new baby and a toddler we weren't ready for more construction projects.

But in the right corner of the door, water would run out every time we took a shower.

The problem, the tile was leaning out of the shower, not into the shower.

So, time for Tri-Tech to remove the door and tiles and slope them in.

They came out to "look", tried to convince us it was the seal on the door, but quickly discovered we were right about the slope of the tiles, so off went the old tiles.

And in with the new--now sloping into the shower.

By the end of the first day, the tiles were set.

On the second day, the grout was installed and the shower door re-installed.
